Thomas Hertog , now a professor at KU Leuven in Belgium , met Stephen Hawking when he was a graduate student.
He and Hawking collaborated on a new theory for how our universe came to be.
Hertog: "When you take a God's -eye view of the universe, you are going to be looking for a prior explanation".

Thomas Hertog's new book, " On the Origin of Time ," details the final theory he developed with Stephen Hawking .
Hertog: "If the laws of physics were not determined, fixed and immutable in the past, it's natural to expect they won't be eternal. So, even though that evolution is suppressed now (because the universe is cold), it's not infinitely suppressed. It's not gone," he says.
