Sunak vows to introduce annual cap on migration

Ministers refuse to put a figure on a target reduction in migration but would commission migration advisers to set a cap that would ensure it was brought down to “sustainable” levels.

The 600,000 overseas undergraduates and temporary workers, such as seasonal fruit and vegetable pickers recruited each year by farmers, will be exempted from the cap.

Refugees who come via safe and legal routes will be subject to a separate cap.

Conservatives have a clear plan to bring numbers down and a record of taking the bold action needed to do so.

So the choice for voters at this election is clear between a Conservative Prime Minister who will cap immigration and bring down the numbers by sustaining the trajectory we are on, or a Labour government that has no plan except to give illegal immigrants an amnesty, with higher immigration and more pressure on services as a result.
