Researchers at the California Institute of Technology used quantum computing techniques to improve the performance of atomic clocks.

They used a new scheme that enables the simultaneous use of multiple atomic clocks to keep time with even greater precision.

The idea is basically the same as having multiple hands on a watch: an hour hand to keep track of longer time changes and a minute hand.
