The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has clarified Medicare Advantage insurers' use of AI tools.
The guidance comes just months after lawsuits claim insurers are using a flawed AI-powered tool to deny care to elderly patients.
The lawsuits center on the same AI tool, called nH Predict, used by both insurers and developed by a UnitedHealth subsidiary.
An "algorithm or software tool should only be used to ensure fidelity," the CMS wrote.
