Gold-plated pensions drive early retirement among police officers

A fifth of all senior police officers aged 50-54 retired in 2021 , according to new data.

This was the largest share of any profession in the country, ONS said.

Among more junior police officers, data found that 14.5pc also stopped work in 2021 .

The ONS says pensions could be fuelling the high proportion of officers quitting the force.
