Rishi Sunak has never been a fan of the pension triple lock.
Number 10 is counting pennies to fudge some offer of tax cuts before the next election.
But the timing is questionable: are the Tories really going to claw back money from their core voter base a year (or less) from next election? What’s more likely is that Number 10 will bend the rules.
The UK must start to consider means-testing pensioner benefits, including triple lock.
Means testing is not a sign of austerity or unkindness: rather it’s an efficient, technically capable, state that is able to allocate money to those who really need it, while reducing costs overall.
