Big Pharma's Johnson & Johnson under investigation in South Africa over 'excessive' drug prices

U.S.-based pharmaceuticals company accused of charging "excessive" prices for key tuberculosis drug.

J&J 's Belgium -based subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals is also under investigation, South Africa's Competition Commission says.

Bedaquiline is used to treat drug-resistant TB , which is desperately-needed by South Africa .

TB is the leading cause of death, killing more than 50,000 people in 2021 .
