A growing list of politicians, conservatives and liberals alike back raising teacher pay.
But they disagree on whether it needs the federal government to offer a solution.
Nationally, teachers' median pay was about $61,000 in 2021, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced the Pay Teachers Act, which would raise public school teacher salaries to $60,000.
Arkansas and Florida have recently approved major bumps to teacher pay at the state level.
"Imposing a one-size-fits-all plan at the federal level will not improve schools or set students on the path to success," Foxx said.
Education finance expert Jess Gartner said teachers should make at least 20% more than they do.
