Gov. Phil Murphy is 'highly optimistic' for 2026 FIFA World Cup in New Jersey .
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is a dress rehearsal of sorts for the 2026 tournament.
Murphy said he expects the stadium to be sold out for Sunday ’s match — for MetLife Stadium , that usually means about 82,500 tickets sold.
The governor gave credit to New York City for partnering during tournament preparations.
The FIFA -sanctioned event in Jersey City will run the length of the tournament and have a capacity of 45,000 guests at a time.
It will stream all 104 of the matches being played in cities across the U.S. , Mexico and Canada .
Murphy has been adamant that even if residents don't care too much about soccer, they should appreciate the opportunity this presents for New Jersey .
