Shorthanded city council decides more work is needed before deciding on an infill cap for Edmonton

69% Informative
Edmonton city council votes to keep maximum number of units in mid-block infills at eight units.
Mayor Amarjeet Sohi is not running for re-election, so the issue will likely be an election issue.
Two missing councillors, Tim Cartmell and Sarah Hamilton , loomed large in a 6 -5 vote.
One month ago , the city’s administration presented a one-year review of the new omnibus zoning bylaw.
At the time, it did not advise council to adjust the cap.
On Tuesday , that committee recommendation was supported by administration.
Coun. Erin Rutherford said the about-face had her confused.
“Why was it not recommended as a course of action on June 3 ?” asked Rutherford .
