66% Informative
Christopher Paul Chung found guilty of manslaughter for role in Junior Laidley's death.
Court of King’s Bench Justice Wayne Renke found the Crown had not proven its case for first -degree murder.
In a 71 -page decision, Renke laid out the complicated circumstances of the killing, which happened Jan. 5, 2016 , outside a Fort Saskatchewan convenience store.
The trial detailed a frantic search for a $ 45,000 package of heroin from the apartment Chung and his girlfriend shared.
Four people were charged in Laidley ’s killing in Fort Saskatchewan .
Chung insisted he was not present for the attack.
Renke was unconvinced and found the evidence overall proved that Chung participated in the attack, but had doubts about whether Chung was the stabber or intended to kill.
Chung eventually reunited with his girlfriend and found heroin in her dad's garage.
