Archaeologists in Israel have discovered four rare bronze artifacts that date back to the first or second century A.D. They say they were found during a salvage excavation of a Roman -era stone-lined grave in the center of the country.

Alongside the discs, they found four bronze ring-shaped handles that were likely once attached to the tops of the lions' heads.

The researchers propose that the bronze objects may also have served as handles, enabling people to carry the coffin or lower it into the grave.
