US President Donald Trump said he had saved Iran 's Ayatollah Ali Khameni from assassination.
He said he would order more bombing if Iran tried to pursue nuclear weapons.
The US president accused the Iranian leader of ingratitude after Mr Khamenei said in defiant message that reports of damage to its nuclear sites from US bombing were exaggerated.
Iran denies it is set to resume nuclear talks with the United States after the end of a 12-day war with Israel .
Doubts remain about whether Iran quietly removed some 400kg of enriched uranium from its most sensitive sites before the strikes.
But the US president dismissed such speculation, saying: "Nothing was taken out.. too dangerous, and very heavy and hard to move!" Mr Khamenei dismissed such claims, saying "the Islamic republic won and in retaliation dealt a severe slap to the face of America ".
