Jurnee Smollett , Greg Kinnear , Rafe Spall and Taron Egerton star in new TV series Smoke .
The nine -part series is based on the story of serial arsonist John Leonard Orr , who is believed to have set nearly 2,000 fires.
Creator Dennis Lehane has written more than a dozen novels including Mystic River , Shutter Island and Gone Baby Gone.
Smoke delivers a searing look at toxic masculinity and ignites the conversation about how positive masculine energy has been hijacked and replaced by entitled anger.
Smollett said the connection between her and Egerton came about very easily and required no “analytical dialogue” before they hit the set.
Michelle is also onto Dave early on, and that ability to see through his game is a skill she has developed.
The unsettling and unpredictable nature of fire, and a psychopathic central character, raises the temperature onscreen.
But it is also a reminder of the wake of destruction and chaos, in many forms, it can leave.
